When he was fully in, she moved her hips around. His tip bumped something deep inside, and she felt her insides flutter.
“Don’t move,” he growled.
Jenna frowned and looked over to him as she shifted her hips again.
His eyes burned bright red, and he struggled for control.
“Please,” he grunted. “I can’t—”
She silenced him by sliding herself off a bit and slamming back down on him.
Her arms wound around his neck, and she kissed the fevered skin there.
“I’m so hot,” she said and licked the skin behind his ear. “Let me trust you.”
Rem moaned and pulled his hips back. She groaned at the feeling.
He moved in and out of her, never going too hard. Her frustration mounted as her need to come pulsed inside her.
When he wrapped his arms around her back and sat up with his cock still firmly inside her, she shivered at the new depth.
“Rem,” she moaned and shook in his arms.
Jenna placed her feet on the floor. She worked over him, his hands on her ass, guiding her.
When she started to speed up, he tightened the hold.
Frustrated didn’t even begin to describe her.
Jenna leaned over to his neck and bit down. She felt him swell inside her. She smiled at her new-found ammunition.
Her mouth moved over his neck. Rem could feel his hold slipping the more she kissed and nipped him.
She stopped when she reached his ear and pulled back to look at him.
“Let go and fuck me,” she said.
Rem could feel his cock throb inside her. It was what he wanted, and hearing her talk like that wasn’t helping his control.
“You aren’t going to hurt me,” she said and leaned forward until he could feel her breath on his ear. “I want this.”
He shook as she spoke. It was what he wanted. All he had to do was let go.
It was his hips that decided for him. They moved up into her with more force than he intended. The moan that followed nearly knocked him down.
Jenna was on her knees over him, shaking as she squeezed him deep inside.
“Yes,” she whispered.
It was all he needed. His hips bucked furiously into her body. Jenna slammed hard against him and met each thrust with far more ease than he would have thought. He could feel the beast struggling to come out more than he’d already allowed, but this was as far as he could go. He only hoped that it was enough for her.
Jenna gripped the skin on this shoulders hard as she slammed down hard on him and ground her hips.
He could feel the first wave of her orgasm as it gripped his dick hard and squeezed rhythmically. Rem choked down the roar that threatened to come out and focused on the feel of her around him.
He pressed a finger against her clit and made hard circles on it with his thumb.
Jenna slumped against him and panted in his ear.
Still holding on to her, he laid her back on the ground.
Stretched out in front of him, he was struck by her beauty.
He pulled out and pressed back into her slick pussy.
She arched her back and started to work her hips against him.
Rem leaned back and watched as he disappeared inside her.
He pounded into her, their wet flesh slapping against one another.
He could feel her next orgasm mount. That same flutter as before.
Jenna linked her legs behind him as he hammered into her.
His thumb again found her clit.
Like lightning, she started to squeeze him, and he pressed himself fully into her as he shot his cum deep inside.
They stayed that way for some time. Both still rocked from the tremors of their release.
Jenna was the first to talk.
“Rem,” she said and ran her fingers through his hair down to his face. When he looked at her, he could see his own feelings reflected. “I lo—”
Rem jumped up and grabbed his pants off the rock.
He couldn’t look at her. How could he after putting her at risk like that? There was no taming the beast. It was all or nothing.
“I need to get some food,” he said quickly and hurried out the entrance.
He just couldn’t face her right now.
Chapter Sixteen
The sound of voices sent a chill down his spine as Rem climbed up the cliff. He should have never left her alone.
As he closed in, the voices became familiar, and a familiar scent was thick in the air: that of friends. He couldn’t tell how much better that was.
Rem sighed and lingered a bit before facing everyone. After the way he had hightailed it out of there, he was lucky Jenna had even bothered to stay.
He ran a hand over his face and cursed himself for about the millionth time. These emotions weren’t something he dealt with often. Most of the time, he just kept that part of himself tucked away, especially the part that was so much like his brother.
He’d sworn to never share that part of himself. It was the evil that he had to live with, and there was no way he’d ask her to live with it as well. Hell, it wasn’t even supposed to go this far. Being with Jenna put her at risk, and he hated the very idea.
Still, it wasn’t like he could leave her alone. She consumed his every thought. She was everything he really wanted.
Rem laughed at himself. The next thing he knew, he’d be writing poetry.
“You know the first sign that you’re cracking is laughing at your own jokes.”
He looked over at the source of the voice. Nyx stood near the opening of the alcove.
He grinned at the woman.
“Something you have intimate knowledge of?” he said.
Nyx snorted.
He liked this sort of casual exchange. He liked knowing people and being able to talk about something other than missions. It wasn’t something he’d ever really had much of before, and the welcome at the lodge had been less than warm. Still, he understood. Not many people could claim their brother was a homicidal maniac.
“So how badly did you fuck up?” Nyx said, cutting into his thoughts.
Rem frowned.
“Did she tell you?” Worry ate at him. He really was an idiot.
Nyx rolled her bright blue eyes. “She didn’t really have to. Nothing like the smell of sex and a very pissed-off woman.”
Rem swallowed. He’d thought it would be something like that and ran a hand through his hair.
“She wants more,” he said slowly, not quite sure how to phrase it. He’d hidden that part of himself so well there was really no way to explain that didn’t make him sound like his brother.
“No,” Nyx said, shaking her head. “She wants you.”
Rem sighed. That was exactly the problem.
“I can’t,” he said quietly. “I want to, but there are parts that she just can’t know.”
Nyx stared at him for some time before she spoke.
“Everyone has parts of themselves that they don’t like,” she said quietly and stared out across the trees at the sky, the light of the rising sun only barely visible. “It’s not about loving every part of the other person but accepting the parts we can’t love.”
Her words weighed on him.
“When did you get so smart?” he said.
Nyx grinned. “Always been smart,” she said. “I just kept it hidden, so you wouldn’t look so dumb.”
Rem laughed and smiled back at her. “I appreciate it.”
She touched his arm and gave a warm smile. “I’ll talk to her,” she said. “But you need to work this out.”
He nodded and watched as she walked back in. Magnus stared at him through the branches. The other man nodded and proceeded toward Rem.
“I hear you’ve got a new tattoo,” Magnus said. “Care to tell me how that happened?”
With everything that had been going on, he barely had time to think about it all. His tattoo meant he was a part of their world.
Rem shook his head. “Someday, but not now.”
Magnus nodded.
“We should rest,” he said and stared out as a pink hue tinted the horizon. “The sun will be out soon, and we’re all exhausted.”
Rem hated to wait. Daylight was their friend with Romulus still out there. The Glycons’ photo-sensitivity was the best weapon against them. Nothing like having a big ball of burning gas on your side.
He looked over at the dark man. Despite his fortress-like appearance, it was apparent that he was also feeling the burn of their escape and the toll, both physically and mentally.
“How many were able to get away?” Rem said.
“Fifteen,” Magnus said. “We lost two when a wall collapsed between us, but the rest came out of cryofreeze without much issue.”
It was never clear to him why they had been frozen, but Rem could only hope that the answers were in the book he gave Jenna.
“We’ll leave in the evening,” Rem said. “That should give us enough of a head-start until Titus and his people arrive.”
Magnus stared at him, his mouth tight with uncertainty. “Do you think they will come?”
It was a question he’d often thought on, but it always came down to the same thing. “Titus gave his word, and that’s just going to have to be enough.”
Rem opened his mouth to tell Magnus what Harold had told him about the stone and their heritage, but the words just wouldn’t come out.
“Let’s get some sleep,” he said and nodded to the brush serving as a makeshift door.
He pulled back the brush and found Jenna instantly. She was near the back of the alcove, her bag huddled under her head and the foil blankets wrapped tightly around her.
Her back tensed, and he knew that some of the post-bonding enhanced Vestal senses were starting to kick in. A large part of him was glad that she knew when he was near. It would be good if she needed help.
Rem crept across the area. As he did, Rem found himself surrounded with those marked as he now was, with blue tattoos flowing across their bodies. They were a wide range of people, and he was surprised to find a few more women in the group. He had always assumed Nyx was the only one.
Rem shifted his focus from the hybrids and back to Jenna. He stopped next to her and lay down beside her. She scooted away from him, and he sighed. It was his own fault. After what they had shared, he just ran.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly.
Several hybrids near them stopped talking.
He was surprised when she turned in his arms and stared at him.
She wrapped her arms around him and leaned her head against his chest.
Rem sighed at the feeling of her back in his arms.
“You’re an idiot,” she mumbled against him.
He laughed at her statement.
“I am,” he said.
She looked up to him, and he felt the growing warmth that bloomed whenever she was near.
“I want all of you,” she said quietly.
Rem open his mouth to respond but stopped when she continued.
“But I’m willing to work for it,” she said and placed her head back against his chest. “Just don’t shut me out.”
Her words made him ache.
He ran a hand lovingly down her back.
“Never,” he whispered.
Her steady breathing indicated sleep was taking hold. He listened to her breath as the others in the room settled in for some well-needed rest. They were going to need it. Getting them all out of there would be a damn near miracle.

Jenna cursed her lack of glasses as they marched through the woods. It was bad enough that they had left when it was nearly dark, but not being able to see much but a blurry bit on the ground was beyond frustrating. Granted, it seemed like her night vision was a bit better than she remembered, but she wasn’t sure if she was just convincing herself there was some upside to not having her glasses on.
“How you holding up?”
She jumped at the sudden sound of a voice next to her. Nyx and the others had kept a safe distance from her last night, and she couldn’t really figure out why.
“I’ll be fine once I can get my glasses,” she said.
Jenna stumbled forward and was glad when Nyx stuck out a hand to catch her.
“There might be a lot of downsides to being what we are, but I’m glad poor eyesight isn’t one,” Nyx said.
Jenna laughed. Of all the things to say, she would have never thought that.
“I guess you’re right,” she said.
Jenna glanced over to the woman. The last time they had seen one another was in the cave. She hadn’t even been certain Nyx had made it out all right.
In a normal setting, throwing her hands around Nyx and giving her a big hug would be natural. But then again, this situation was pretty darn far from natural.
“I’m glad you made it out,” Jenna said.
Nyx placed a hand on her back and nodded.
“Likewise,” she said. “Damn place nearly buried us all.”
Jenna grinned. “That’s because someone got a little happy with the dynamite.”
Nyx huffed. “I was only following orders.”
It was nice to talk like this. She had worried last night when the group of strange hybrids filtered into the small room. They had all been so quiet and seemed to be doing their best to keep their distance.
“Do your people not like me?” she asked Nyx quietly.
She was surprised when the other woman laughed loudly.
“It’s not a matter of like,” she said and moved in a little closer. “Most here have been asleep for a very long time. The way they learned was through a monarchy-like system that was thoroughly seeped in mysticism and faith.”
Jenna turned to look at her. “And you weren’t?”
Nyx shook her long dark hair. “Magnus and I were created after. We were the keepers. The tools to do the Horatius Group’s bidding.”
She could hear the anger in Nyx’s voice as she spoke.
Jenna looked over to one of the hybrids. She couldn’t make out their face, but they paused and walked somewhat behind her.
“How long were some of them frozen?” she asked.
She’d thought that sort of thing was only science fiction, but then again, the idea of genetically engineered super-soldiers had seemed like science fiction before she started at Luna Lodge.
Nyx held out her hand and helped her over a log.
“We aren’t sure,” she said. “It was really only luck that Magnus found them one day. All these years we had thought we were the only ones, when they had been right under our noses the whole time.”
Jenna couldn’t imagine their frustration. Her eyes sought Rem, and despite her poor eyesight, she could still pick him out of the crowd.
“That still doesn’t explain why they are acting that way,” she said.
Nyx gave a little laugh.
“Well, isn’t it obvious? Rem is an alpha. You are his bonded.”
Jenna nearly choked on her own spit.
“They think I’m like their queen or something?” she whispered in disbelief.
Nyx nodded. “That’s exactly what they believe.”

Rem kept his distance from her as they trekked through the woods. He needed to stay alert, and there was no way he could do that with her close by, not that it was stopping him from turning around to look at her every few minutes.
“How much farther until we reach the meeting point?” Magnus said.
Rem looked over at him.
“We had to circle around the area of the cave,” he said. “We were spit out a bit too far north, but we should be there within the hour. If we aren’t there when they arrive, Titus will send scouts in for us.”
“You know… he’s not far away,” Magnus said and looked into the dense forest. “I can feel him out there.”
Rem knew what he was saying. Everyone in the woods, including the animals, seemed
to sense the presence of Romulus.
Silence choked the forest. A pack of predators tended to do that. He could only hope that Romulus hadn’t been able to collect that many Glycons.
Something snapped nearby, and he froze.
Putting his nose in the air, Rem smelled for traces of the enemy. Only the night wind and the normal scents of the forest met him.
He turned to say something to Magnus when something caught his eye far off in the distance. Two glowing dots disappeared.
“Shit,” Rem said and pulled out the gun he had been able to salvage from Jenna’s bag. “They’re here.”
The group stared tensely into the forest.
“They will come for us,” Rem said to the group that so desperately needed some assurance. “They have been known to cloak their scents with chemicals. You’ll have to rely on your sight.”
A number of bright blue eyes stared back at him. These people had been through hell, and he was still going to ask them to fight.
“Remember where you were. How they put you there,” he said. Several of the larger men scowled at the memory. “If we don’t fight, they will take us back.”
He could feel the anger fueling them now.
Rem scanned the trees and swallowed as he made out many more pairs of red dots in the distance. They weren’t facing a few Glycons. They were facing an army.
“We’re surrounded,” Magnus said in his ear.
Rem nodded.
“Brother.”
Rem turned to the tree nearest to him and found Romulus’s red glowing eyes just behind it. They had walked into an ambush.
Chapter Seventeen
Rem glared at his brother between the trees. They kept ending up at the same spot, the two of them face to face, but Romulus protected by his Glycons.
“I see you survived,” Romulus said.
Rem smiled. “I think that’s my line.”
He knew what to say to needle Romulus, and, if he was lucky, maybe his brother would decide the fight was only with him.
“I see you’re up to the same tricks as before,” Rem said. “Using the Group’s toys to block your scent.”
“One of the more effective tools.” Romulus smiled.
